I watched Spike Jonze' film Adaptation with Pennie the other night and was pleasantly surprised.
Nicolas Cage did a great job playing both a neurotic veteran screenwriter and his oblivious twin brother who is just becoming one. Chris Cooper was exceptional as Laroche, the orchid thief that is the center of Meryl Streeps attention and eventually affection. The story is quirky, yet compelling. It takes a strange twisted turn in the end, but that is only to prove the point the film is succesfully attempting to make in its own convoluted way. I won't spoil the film for you by telling any of the twist and turns, but I will say that there is one impressive scene when Laroche is relaying a story to Streep's character over the phone - it was a great piece of filmmaking. Overall, the film was well worth the watching and if you like following twisting storyline that jump all over in time - this is a great piece for you.
RATING 7 out of 10

PS You probably knew that Nicolas is nephew to Francis Ford Coppola, but did you know that director, Spike Jonze is husband to Coppola's daughter, Sophia Coppola
Did you know that Jonze was the director for the "Buddy Holly" video by Weezer?
Well, how about the fact that he is heir to the Spiegel mail-order catalog fortune?
If you get a chance to check out Fatboy Slim's video "Praise You" you will see Spike in all his glory. Jonze is one of my favorite rising stars.
Oh yeah - and he acts, that's him on the far right in Three Kings.

You blog - let the world know!
