Had a fun day New Year's day in Victoria. Pennie and I headed into town to take Mom to lunch and a movie. In addition, the thrift store in Victoria was wondering if I could come by and give them a quote on a comic book collection and possibly make an offer if I was interested. The collection was not very impressive. I felt bad telling them that this collection they prized so highly really had no value - but they needed to know. They were sure they had a $10,000 gold mine, but I was left to give them the bad news when I told them it was worth about $50 tops. Ouch!
After that unpleasant start, the day got much better. Tony Vasquez and his daughter Allison joined us at Furr's cafeteria for lunch and Allison held court with her silliness. (I did my part to contribute to the overall lack of decorum.) After way too many giggles and laughter at one meal, we opted out of seeing a movie and decided to head out to Mom's house and play some board games. Mom had just gotten some new ones from the thrift store. Pennie and I had just gotten Trivial Pursuit and Allison had her Monopoly Christmas gift with her.
We settled on Sorry! and all sat around the kitchen table to play. Well, while thrift store shopping is sometimes a heck of a deal - occasionally you get what you pay for. Inside Mom's 29 cent Sorry! game was a board and the letter L from another game. That was it! No pieces, no dice popper, nothing! Oh well - we decided on Monopoly. All I will say is that it was a long game and we had a really good time demanding rent from each other, doing our time in jail and even an occasional trip to CONNECT-T-CUT Avenue. We probably kept Mom up longer than we should have, but she was a very gracious host, fighting off sleepiness and keeping the table full of snacks and drinks until we could consume no more.
Overall, it was a pretty fun day...
