I watched the 1936 film Mr. Deeds Comes to Town - the movie on which the Adam Sandler movie, Mr. Deeds is based. The original by Frank Capra is FAR SUPERIOR! I have been a huge Gary Cooper fan since seeing one of my all-time favorite films - Pride of the Yankees and a sucker for a tale about an honest, hardworking, good person. The original was nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Sound Recording earning Capra his second Oscar for Best Director. He won with It Happened One Night in 1935. Capra is probably my favorite director as he also directed two of my other favorites Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and It's a Wonderful Life.

There is really nothing wrong with the Sandler version, but the original is just better.
