El Guapo and Me!
One of the early stars of mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting, a legend of the fight game, and my first hero in the sport - Bas Rutten, is in town coaching his Anacondas team of fighters in tonights International Fight League (IFL) competition at Reliant Arena. I am covering the event for This Week in Houston and went to the official weigh-in at the Hooters on Kirby.
After all the fighters did their deal - step on the scale, ham to the audience, and pose for photos... I was able to spend some time with my hero "El Guapo." I told him that I have been watching him since way back in the day... and we posed for this photo. I look forward to talking with him again tonight before the event.
How cool is it that podcasting has allowed me to not only see a ton of great events, but meet genuinely nice guys like Bas Rutten? Good times!
